Welcome readers to the 2nd meeting of the 2025-26 Mary Elizabeth Garret Book Club sponsored by the Welch Medical Library
Wednesday May 6 - 5-6:30 pm. We will gather in-person in the Mary Elizabeth Garrett room #106 on 1st floor Nutting corridor (between the Wolfe St. lobby and the Osler-Halsted building elevators on the first floor of JHH). Light refreshments will be served but there will NOT be zoom this time. JH author Lauren Small who led Afterwards will discuss her new novel Radegonde and the First Crusade.
In the dead of winter in 1096, a young seamstress from northern France embarks on a most improbable journey: a trek across Europe to the Holy Land to liberate Jerusalem. Swept up into the First Crusade, Radegonde and her companions—a formerly enslaved African, a Jewish scholar, a runaway monk, and a Muslim girl—encounter the violence and cruelty of war, but also love, forgiveness, and hope. Radegonde and the First Crusade gives voice to women whose stories are so often overlooked in accounts of the past and brings to life a pivotal moment in history when ordinary people, by transforming themselves, transformed the world.

Please join the in-person discussion of Radegonde and the First Crusade.
