Dear Colleagues,
With deep appreciation for her service and leadership, we announce that Anne Seymour, associate dean and director of the Welch Medical Library, will be leaving Johns Hopkins at the end of February to take a position as vice provost of libraries and university librarian at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Canada.
Anne joined Johns Hopkins in 2014 as director of the Welch Medical Library, and was appointed associate dean in 2023. Over the course of her tenure, she has expanded the engagement of the Welch Library team across education, research and clinical practice, and she led the expansion of library and information instruction in the education programs of medicine, nursing and public health. She has helped grow research partnerships with the expert team of informationists and other staff, resulting in increased joint publications.
Under her leadership, more resources and tools for researchers, learners and clinicians have been made available and accessible from anywhere. Anne and her team at Welch have been instrumental in guiding faculty, researchers and students across the health sciences and beyond in publishing, scholarly communication, data-sharing, funder compliance and open-science practices within a rapidly changing environment. In addition, she recently stepped up to serve as the interim director of the Alan Mason Chesney Medical Archives, and is overseeing its integration with the Welch Library and the whole Johns Hopkins Libraries and Archives system.
Anne’s collaborative spirit is well known, and she is recognized for cross-institutional engagement. She has strengthened cooperation across the Johns Hopkins Libraries and built up shared services with all the libraries and archives at Johns Hopkins. Anne serves on multiple groups at the library, school and institutional levels, representing the services and knowledge that the Welch Library and all the Johns Hopkins Libraries bring. She has also brought recognition to the Welch Library and to Johns Hopkins with her national and international leadership in library professional groups and in service to national initiatives.
Following Anne’s departure, Elizabeth Whipple, associate director for informationist services at Welch, will assume the role of interim director of the Welch Medical Library. Barbara Pralle, associate director for content and discovery, will serve as interim director of the Chesney Archives.
We will miss Anne, and we wish her much success in her new role in Canada!
Sincerely,
Theodore L. DeWeese, M.D.
