Create an ORCiD account

  1. Featured

ORCiD stands for Open Researcher and Contributor ID. It is a non-proprietary, unique identifier for researchers. It can be used across publishers, institutions, and countries to identify you and your research contributions.

Instructions

If you have any problems signing up, please contact your Informationist for assistance.

Click on this URL and sign in using an email account. This will default to your Hopkins email, but you can change it. You may prefer to use a personal email, especially if you are a student or plan on changing institutions.

  1. URL: https://orcid.johnshopkins.edu/secure/connect/?go
  2. Once signed in, you can manually update your educational history, work history and funding.
  3. When updating your Works section, you can use a few database tools.
  4. Under "Add Works" select "Search & Link"
    1. To use Scopus, select Scopus, and allow it to access your ORCiD account.
      1. You will see a list of names similar to yours with subject areas, affiliations, and geographic locations. Find yours and check the box next to it. Click next.
      2. Choose your preferred profile name. Click next.
      3. Review the authored publications. Double check that they are all yours, uncheck any that aren't.
      4. Review your profile in the next screen, then send your Author ID to ORCID. You'll need to use your Hopkins email address.
      5. Scopus will then ask your permission to send the publication list to ORCID. Click on "Send my publication list" button.
    2. Select "Europe Pubmed Central" and allow it to access your ORCiD account.
      1. You will see a list of publications. The ones highlighted in green are already in your ORCiD account, you don't need to do anything with those. Select the non-highlighted publications that you have authored, then click Send to ORCiD.
    3. You can also import articles from ResearcherID and CrossRef Metadata Search. If you have publications that aren't listed in these databases, you can add them manually by selecting "Add manually" under "Add works" in your ORCiD account. This can be useful for conference abstracts, books, or other publications that aren't generally included in databases.
