Information and Reference Services

The NIRC staff answer reference questions, perform computer searches, teach people how to use library equipment and facility, assist users operating the microcomputers in the nearby computer lab, and direct people to information sources. The staff provide instruction on using the Welch Resources Search which includes MEDLINE, the JHU Libraries Catalog, and several other databases and resources.

A core collection of nursing books and some general materials are maintained at the NIRC. Several video cassettes and computer assisted instruction programs on nursing skills are available. Only four journals are subscribed to: American Journal of Nursing, Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, Nursing Outlook, and Nursing Research. The International Nursing Index is available back to 1986.

Microcomputer Facilities

There are 14 computers within the NIRC and two laser printers. Near the NIRC in Room 303 are two open computer labs. All computers have the Microsoft Office suite software. The microcomputers are only for the use of the faculty, staff, and students of the School of Nursing.
